Collection: Flexible Solar Panels
Compare flexible solar panels for caravans, RVs, boats, 4WDs and lightweight off-grid battery systems. This is StarPower’s main flexible-solar range, with 12V panels across several wattages and construction types for low-profile installations where weight, height or a gently curved surface makes a framed panel less suitable.
Use the product filters and specifications to compare panel dimensions, voltage, current, construction and included components. Some products are panel-only and some include a regulator, so check each listing before ordering.
When a Flexible Solar Panel Makes Sense
A flexible panel can suit caravan, campervan, motorhome, marine and 4WD installations where reducing roof weight and overall height is important. For vehicle-specific guidance, see our flexible caravan solar panels and flexible RV solar panels.
- Low profile: useful where clearance and wind profile matter.
- Lower panel weight: helpful for payload-sensitive touring setups.
- Suitable mounting flexibility: selected models can follow a gentle curve when installed within the manufacturer’s limits.
- 12V battery charging: suitable for compatible lithium LiFePO4, AGM and deep-cycle systems when paired with the correct controller.
Flexible vs Fixed Solar Panels
Flexible panels are usually chosen for weight, profile and suitable curved surfaces. Fixed solar panels generally provide a rigid frame, easier rear ventilation and a robust option where roof structure and clearance allow. Neither type is automatically best for every installation: compare roof shape, panel dimensions, mounting method, ventilation, expected service conditions and warranty requirements.
Choosing 200W, 300W, 400W or 500W
- 200W: useful where roof space is limited or the panel is supplementing another charging source.
- 300W: a balanced option for many touring battery systems, subject to daily appliance use and sunlight.
- 400W: more generation capacity where the roof area and controller ratings allow.
- 500W: suited to higher-demand setups with enough mounting space and a controller that can accept the panel’s electrical input.
Always compare the exact dimensions and electrical specifications rather than choosing by wattage alone. Two panels with the same advertised wattage can have different voltage, current, footprint and mounting requirements.
Popular options include the 500W shingled flexible solar panel and the 500W flexible monocrystalline solar panel. You can also compare the wider 400W solar panel range and 500W solar panels.
Controller and Battery Compatibility
Match the panel’s open-circuit voltage, operating current and total array configuration to the controller’s PV input limits. A controller must also use a charging profile suitable for your battery chemistry. Browse MPPT solar charge controllers and lithium batteries, or contact StarPower before ordering if you need help checking compatibility.
Use appropriately rated cabling, connectors, fuses and isolation equipment. Parallel or series panel combinations change the array current or voltage, so do not assume a controller that suits one panel will suit a larger array.
Installation and Real-World Output
Flexible panels should be installed in accordance with the individual manufacturer’s instructions. Do not exceed the stated bend limits, walk on the panel or mount it across gaps and sharp roof contours. Heat, shade, panel angle, cable losses, airflow, weather and controller efficiency all affect real-world output.
Before installation, check the roof material, structural support, mounting method, water sealing, cable route and access for future inspection. Vehicle, marine and permanent electrical work should be completed by a suitably qualified installer where required.
Flexible Solar Panel FAQs
Can a flexible solar panel charge a lithium battery?
Yes, when it is connected through a compatible controller with the correct lithium charging profile and suitable voltage and current ratings.
Can flexible panels be fitted to a curved caravan roof?
Selected panels can suit a gentle curve, but permitted bend limits and mounting methods vary. Check the product instructions and roof suitability before installation.
Is a regulator included?
It depends on the product. Some listings include a regulator while others are panel-only. The product description and included-items section should be checked before purchase.
How much power will the panel produce?
The rated wattage is measured under standard test conditions. Actual output varies with sunlight, heat, shade, mounting angle, cleanliness, cabling and controller efficiency.
