The SunPower 450W Performance 7 All-Black Solar Panel is a residential-format N-type TOPCon module with a one-third-cut shingled-cell design and bifacial glass-glass construction. The 450W model delivers 22.2% front-side efficiency at standard test conditions while its black frame and cell layout provide a clean rooftop appearance.

System compatibility: this panel has a 35.45V operating voltage and 41.95V open-circuit voltage. It is not a nominal 12V panel and must not be connected directly to a battery. Confirm the inverter or MPPT controller voltage, current and cold-condition Voc limits before ordering.

450W Electrical Specifications

Nominal power 450W
Panel efficiency 22.2%
Rated voltage (Vmpp) 35.45V
Rated current (Impp) 12.70A
Open-circuit voltage (Voc) 41.95V
Short-circuit current (Isc) 13.38A
Maximum series fuse 25A
Power tolerance +3/0%

These are the manufacturer’s 450W front-side STC ratings. Real-world output varies with irradiance, panel temperature, orientation, shading, soiling, mounting and complete-system losses.

Dimensions and Construction

  • Dimensions: 1790 × 1134 × 30mm
  • Weight: 24.8kg
  • Glass: 2.0mm front and 2.0mm rear heat-strengthened glass
  • Wind test load: 4000Pa, front and rear
  • Snow test load: 6000Pa, front
  • Impact resistance: 40mm hail at 27.5m/s
  • Connector: Stäubli MC4 or EVO2A, depending on supplied version

Measure the installation area and confirm mounting, lifting and roof-load requirements before purchase. Check the label on the supplied module for the exact model suffix, connector and maximum-system-voltage version.

Bifacial Solar Generation

The rear surface can generate additional energy from reflected light. For the 450W model, the datasheet lists 473W at 5% bifacial gain, 495W at 10% gain and 540W at 20% gain. These are reference test values rather than guaranteed site output. Rear-side contribution depends on roof or ground reflectivity, panel clearance, tilt, racking and rear shading.

Where This Panel Fits

  • Compatible residential rooftop solar systems
  • Engineered grid-connected arrays
  • Purpose-designed off-grid systems using a compatible high-voltage MPPT controller or inverter
  • Installations prioritising an all-black panel appearance

This panel should be selected by its electrical specifications and physical dimensions—not wattage alone. Smaller caravan or nominal 12V systems may require a different panel and controller combination.

Installation and Controller Matching

Solar array design, mounting, earthing, isolation and over-current protection must follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable Australian electrical requirements. Calculate maximum cold-condition Voc across the complete series string and confirm the inverter or controller input-current limit. Do not mix connector types unless the manufacturer explicitly approves the connection.

Performance 7 Warranty

The current SunPower Performance 7 datasheet states 30-year product and power coverage, 99% minimum warranted output in year one and maximum annual degradation of 0.4%. The 30-year term requires registration and remains subject to warranty conditions, country availability and installation requirements; otherwise a 25-year warranty may apply. Confirm the current Australian registration process and coverage for the supplied module.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this panel suitable for a 12V battery system?

It is not a nominal 12V panel. It may be used only with an MPPT controller that accepts its 41.95V Voc, current and cold-condition voltage with an appropriate safety margin. Never connect the panel directly to a battery.

Does the panel always produce 450W?

450W is the front-side rating under standard test conditions. Actual output changes throughout the day and depends on sunlight, cell temperature, installation angle, shading, cleanliness and system efficiency.

Can bifacial gain increase output above 450W?

It can under suitable reflective and elevated mounting conditions, but the amount is installation-dependent. Treat the datasheet’s bifacial figures as reference conditions rather than guaranteed production.

How is Performance 7 different from Maxeon?

Performance 7 uses N-type TOPCon shingled cells and glass-glass construction. SunPower Maxeon panels use a different back-contact cell architecture. Compare the exact model’s electrical ratings, warranty, dimensions and intended application before choosing.
