This 400W 12V folding solar panel blanket is a portable charging option for caravan, 4WD and camping battery systems. It uses Grade-A monocrystalline cells, folds to 550 × 385 × 80mm and weighs 5.5kg for transport and storage.

The blanket can be unfolded at camp and positioned in clear sunlight instead of permanently mounting a panel to your vehicle. The current listing includes a PWM solar controller. Before connecting, confirm that the supplied or replacement controller, cabling, connectors and battery charging profile suit the complete system.

Controller & Battery Compatibility

Do not size a controller from wattage alone. Check the 22.2V Voc and 22.9A Isc against the controller's PV-input limits, then confirm its permitted array wattage and expected battery-side charging current for your battery voltage. The controller must also have the correct charge profile for lithium LiFePO4, AGM, gel or your specific battery chemistry.

For portable power stations, verify the unit's solar-input voltage, current, connector and polarity limits before connecting. An adaptor alone does not confirm electrical compatibility.

Browse MPPT solar charge controllers, lithium batteries and AGM batteries for compatible system options.

Getting Better Real-World Output

  • Place the blanket in clear, direct sunlight and avoid partial shade.
  • Reposition it as the sun moves when practical.
  • Keep connectors clean, dry and protected from strain.
  • Use correctly sized cable and avoid unnecessary extension length.
  • Keep the blanket supported and away from sharp edges or vehicle traffic.

Actual output will usually be below 400W because the rating is measured under standard test conditions. Heat, cloud, shade, panel angle, dirt, cable loss, controller efficiency and battery state all affect charging performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this 400W blanket charge a 12V battery?

Yes, when used with a suitable regulator, correctly sized protected cabling and a compatible battery charge profile. Confirm every electrical limit before connection.

Can it run a camping fridge?

The blanket charges a battery that can supply a fridge. Runtime depends on fridge consumption, battery capacity, other loads, weather and total solar harvested each day.

Can I use an MPPT controller instead of PWM?

A compatible MPPT controller can be used when its PV-input and battery-output limits suit this panel and battery bank. Check the controller manufacturer's specifications before changing the supplied setup.
